Osteopathy

Osteopathy for every stage of life

Osteopathy is a whole-person approach to healthcare, looking not only at where you are experiencing pain or discomfort, but at the wider factors that may be contributing to how your body is feeling and functioning.

At Grow Clinic, your care begins with a thorough osteopathic assessment. We take time to understand your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and the things that matter to you, before assessing how your body moves and functions.

Osteopathy isn’t just about backs. People come to us with a wide range of musculoskeletal concerns, including back and neck pain, joint and muscle pain, headaches associated with neck problems, minor sports injuries, work or activity-related problems, arthritic pain, muscle tension and general aches and stiffness.

Treatment is tailored to you and may include gentle or more direct hands-on techniques, such as soft tissue work, stretching, joint mobilisation or manipulation, alongside movement, exercise and practical advice where appropriate.

Pregnancy Care

Osteopathy during pregnancy

Pregnancy brings significant physical changes as your body adapts throughout each trimester. These changes can affect how you move, feel and function, and may contribute to new aches and pains or change the way existing problems feel.

At Grow Clinic, your care begins with a thorough osteopathic assessment. We’ll take time to understand your symptoms, medical and pregnancy history, how your pregnancy is progressing and the things that matter to you, before assessing how your body is moving and adapting.

People come to us during pregnancy with a range of musculoskeletal concerns, including pregnancy-related back and pelvic girdle pain, hip and rib discomfort, neck and shoulder pain, and general muscle and joint aches or tension.

Treatment is tailored to you and your stage of pregnancy. We use a range of hands-on osteopathic techniques, adapting positioning and treatment as your pregnancy progresses to keep you comfortable. Movement, exercise and practical advice may also form part of your care where appropriate.

Whether you’re dealing with a new problem, managing something that was there before pregnancy, or finding that the physical changes of pregnancy are making everyday activities more difficult, we’ll work with you to understand what’s contributing and support you with an individual approach to your care.

Postnatal Care

Postnatal care, wherever you are in your recovery

Postnatal care isn’t only for the first few weeks or months after having a baby. You may have recently given birth, be returning to exercise months later, or have children who are now much older but still be experiencing symptoms or changes that began during pregnancy, birth or the postnatal period.

At Grow Clinic, postnatal care is built around you. Whether you gave birth vaginally or by caesarean, your pregnancy and birth history, recovery so far, current symptoms and the things you want to get back to doing all form part of the picture.

You don’t need to wait until your six-week check to see an osteopath after giving birth. Where appropriate, osteopathic care can begin earlier, with assessment and treatment adapted to your stage of recovery.

A Mummy MOT® is a comprehensive specialist postnatal assessment, suitable from six weeks after a vaginal birth or eight weeks after a caesarean birth. Your assessment considers your recovery as a whole and may include posture and movement, abdominal wall function including diastasis recti abdominis (DRA), pelvic floor function, breathing and pressure management, bladder, bowel or sexual symptoms, and caesarean or perineal scar healing where relevant.

An internal vaginal pelvic floor assessment may be offered where clinically appropriate. This is always optional, will be discussed with you beforehand and will only take place with your informed consent.

Following your Mummy MOT® assessment, you’ll receive personalised advice and rehabilitation based on your individual findings, whether your goal is to feel more comfortable in everyday life, return to exercise or sport, build confidence in your body, or simply understand what’s happening and what you can do about it.

Care is guided by your osteopathic assessment and may include hands-on osteopathic treatment, movement and rehabilitation, pelvic health support, practical advice and scar therapy where appropriate.

If your main concern is a caesarean scar, or you would like more focused scar assessment and treatment, our dedicated Scar & Surgical Recovery service may be more appropriate. If you’re not sure which appointment to book, please get in touch — I’m always happy to have a quick chat about what’s going on and help you decide.

Pelvic Health

Pelvic health, as part of the whole picture

Pelvic health refers to how well the bladder, bowel and pelvic floor are functioning together, and plays an important role in physical, emotional and sexual wellbeing. Pelvic health concerns can affect people of all genders and at any stage of life.

When things aren’t working as they should, it can affect comfort, confidence, movement and everyday life. Concerns may include bladder or bowel leakage or urgency, constipation, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic or lower back pain, hip pain, or discomfort with intimacy.

At Grow Clinic, pelvic health care begins with a comprehensive osteopathic assessment. We’ll talk about your symptoms and wider health history and consider how your posture, movement, breathing, abdominal wall, pelvic floor and wider musculoskeletal system may relate to one another and to the way your body is functioning as a whole.

An internal pelvic floor assessment may be offered where clinically appropriate. This is always optional, will be discussed with you beforehand and will only take place with your informed consent.

Your care is guided by your individual findings and goals. Depending on your assessment, this may include hands-on osteopathic treatment, movement and rehabilitation, pelvic health support and practical advice, considering not only where symptoms are experienced but the wider relationships that may be relevant to them.

Whether your symptoms are recent or long-standing, the aim is to help you understand what’s happening and develop an individual plan for moving forward.

Babies & Children

Osteopathic care for babies and children

Supporting babies and children as they grow, move and explore.

Your child’s appointment begins with listening. We’ll talk through their health and development, pregnancy and birth history where relevant, and anything you’ve noticed or would like to discuss.

Osteopathic assessment considers how your child moves and how their musculoskeletal system is functioning, looking at the body as a whole rather than focusing only on one area. Treatment, where appropriate, is gentle and adapted to their age, development and individual needs.

Appointments are calm and child-led, with time to observe how your baby or child moves and responds. Babies can be fed, changed or cuddled whenever they need, and there is no expectation for them to stay still or quiet.

As children grow and become more active, assessment and care continue to be adapted to their stage of development and may include movement, exercise and practical advice where appropriate.

If anything in your child’s history or assessment suggests that further medical assessment or support would be appropriate, we’ll discuss this with you and refer or signpost where needed.

Mum & Baby Session

Osteopathic care for you and your baby

A Mum & Baby Session is a longer, shared appointment designed to give both you and your baby time for individual osteopathic assessment and care within one session. Despite the name, the appointment is suitable for mothers, partners and primary caregivers.

The early weeks and months with a baby can place different demands on both of you. You may be recovering from pregnancy or birth, adapting to feeding, carrying and caring for your baby, while your baby is growing and developing rapidly.

Your appointment is calm and flexible, with time to talk about what has been happening for both of you. You and your baby will each be assessed individually, with treatment offered where appropriate and adapted to your respective needs.

The session is led by what you need on the day. Babies can be fed, changed or cuddled whenever needed, and there is no expectation for them to stay still or quiet.

Where relevant, we can also consider how caring for your baby — including feeding positions, lifting, carrying and everyday movement — may relate to your own comfort and musculoskeletal function.

Scar & Surgical Recovery

Scar & Surgical Recovery

Individual care before and after surgery, injury or scarring

Scars are part of the body’s natural response to injury and surgery, and they continue to change over time. For some people a scar causes very little concern; for others there may be changes in comfort, sensation, sensitivity, tightness or movement, or simply questions about how best to look after it.

Scar & Surgical Recovery at Grow Clinic begins with a comprehensive osteopathic assessment. If you’re preparing for planned surgery, this may include considering your current movement and musculoskeletal function, discussing your anticipated recovery and helping you prepare for the period following your procedure. After surgery or injury, we’ll talk through your medical history, how your recovery has progressed and anything you’ve noticed or are concerned about. Your assessment considers the scar itself, where present, alongside your movement, surrounding tissues and wider musculoskeletal system.

Care may begin before planned surgery or at any stage afterwards. Scars following many different types of surgery or injury can be assessed, including caesarean birth, abdominal or pelvic surgery, breast and chest surgery, orthopaedic procedures, laparoscopic surgery, oncology treatment, gender-affirming surgery and traumatic injury. Both newer and older scars can be assessed.

Treatment is individual and guided by your assessment. Depending on your findings and stage of recovery, this may include hands-on osteopathic treatment, scar massage and mobilisation, movement and rehabilitation, practical advice and support with scar self-management.

Where clinically appropriate, specialist technologies including LymphaTouch®, Therapeutic Ultrasound and LPG Endermologie® may also be incorporated into your care.

You’ll also be given appropriate advice about caring for your scar between appointments, which may include self-massage, movement and exercise, hydration and skincare, or evidence-informed scar products such as silicone.

If your scar or recovery requires medical assessment or care outside the scope of osteopathy and scar therapy, we’ll discuss this with you and refer or signpost you where appropriate.
