Nurturing Support After Birth

Embrace a smooth transition into motherhood.

Postnatal care focuses on your well-being after childbirth, addressing both physical and emotional needs. This nurturing support aids recovery, helping you regain strength and balance in a caring environment. Through personalized sessions, you can address common postnatal challenges such as pelvic health, body alignment, and fatigue, fostering a smoother transition into motherhood. This gentle care not only enhances your recovery but also empowers you to embrace this new chapter with confidence and ease.

Postnatal Care

After pregnancy, up to half of people experience weakness in the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor, and up to a third still have a tummy gap at eight weeks following birth.

These changes can affect core strength and stability, and may contribute to symptoms such as back or pelvic pain, or issues with bladder, bowel, or sexual function. While common, these are not issues you need to simply accept after having a baby.

Many people also find themselves avoiding certain movements or activities, as their body doesn’t feel quite right or as strong as it once did. Everyday movements like bending, lifting and squatting should feel comfortable – this is something Michelle will address with you as part of your recovery, no matter how long ago you gave birth.

Your appointment includes: • Full postural screen • Screening for bladder, bowel and sexual symptoms • Abdominal assessment, including diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) • Pelvic floor assessment (internal, with your consent if appropriate) • Review of C-section or perineal scar healing • Practical advice for daily movement • A personalised rehabilitation plan

A postnatal assessment is recommended from around 6–8 weeks after birth, although many people attend months or even years later with ongoing symptoms. If your concerns feel less related to postnatal recovery, a Pelvic Health Consultation may also be appropriate.

Where appropriate, Michelle may also use Therapeutic Ultrasound and LPG Endermologie® to support scar healing.

Michelle has completed extensive training in women’s health, including The Mummy MOT® and a two-year specialist post-graduate diploma in Women’s Health. She is committed to improving the standard of postnatal care and continues to develop her expertise through specialist training in rehabilitation and recovery. She is currently training as a Pregnancy & Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist, enabling her to provide tailored exercise and rehabilitation advice.
