Growing, moving and exploring

Osteopathic care that adapts as your child grows

The first weeks, months and years of life are a time of remarkable growth and change. Every baby and child develops in their own way, and as they learn new skills their bodies are constantly adapting to the world around them.

Some parents come with a particular concern. Others simply want the opportunity to better understand how their baby or child is moving and adapting through different stages of development.

At Grow Clinic, osteopathic care starts with your child as an individual. Their age, development, health history and the things you’ve noticed all form part of the picture.

Your child’s appointment begins with listening

Time to talk, observe and understand

We’ll begin by talking through your child’s health and development, pregnancy and birth history where relevant, and anything you’ve noticed or would like to discuss. With younger babies, this might also include feeding, sleeping, comfort and how things have been going in the early weeks of family life.

A gentle osteopathic assessment considers how your baby or child moves and how their musculoskeletal system is functioning, looking at the body as a whole rather than focusing only on one area.

Appointments are calm and child-led. Babies can be fed, changed or cuddled whenever they need, and there is no expectation for them to stay still or quiet. Treatment, where appropriate, is gentle and adapted to your child’s age, development and individual needs.

Why might you bring a baby or child?

There doesn’t need to be one particular reason

Babies and children are brought for osteopathic assessment for many different reasons. You may:

  • have been recommended osteopathy by a friend, family member or healthcare professional
  • have questions following a difficult or assisted birth
  • have noticed your baby or child seems to prefer looking or turning one way
  • have concerns around feeding
  • be receiving support for tongue-tie or infant feeding
  • have concerns about your child’s movement, muscles or joints as they grow and become more active

Sometimes there is a specific concern; at other times, you may simply want an opportunity to ask questions and better understand how your baby or child is moving and developing.

Osteopathic care with your child at the centre

Individual, gentle and clinically considered

Michelle has extensive experience working osteopathically with babies and children. Her approach is gentle, individual and guided by osteopathic assessment and clinical reasoning, with care adapted to each child’s age, development and needs.

Where appropriate, Michelle works alongside GPs, paediatricians, physiotherapists, infant feeding specialists and other healthcare professionals. If further assessment or medical input may be helpful, this will always be discussed with you.

The aim is to help you better understand your child’s movement and development, while making sure they receive the right support at the right time.
